1

Witch Broom Chandelier

Withes and brooms always mix, and this project is just the thing you need to give your home that wicked, cauldron-bubbling-in-the-corner atmosphere. The project’s pretty basic, and only requires common household items such as a broom, mason jars, string, and candles.
Difficulty: Easy
Time estimate: 30 to 60 minutes
Location: Living Room
List of materials: Broom; 4 mason jars; 4 candles (battery-operated ones work best); Black twine; Faux black cat

How to Make a Witch Broom Chandelier?

Attach string to both ends of the broom and hang it from the ceiling.
Put candles in the mason jars.
Tie strings to each jar and then attach it to the hanging broom.
Place the faux black cat on the broom’s end.
Enjoy your new chandelier! :D
You can also use witch broom chandeliers as a sort of scary Halloween window decorations if you just hang them from a curtain rod.

2

Skull Candle Holder

Want to give your living room that Addams family look? Then you should try out this ghoulish candle holder made from painted plastic skulls and two ceramic saucers. It might take some time to gather all the supplies, but the results will speak for themselves.
Difficulty: Intermediate
Time estimate: 60 to 90 minutes
Location: Anywhere around the house
List of materials: Plastic skulls (3 should be enough); Ceramic saucers (2); Candle; Hot glue; Black paint; Brush

How to Make the Skull Candle Holder?

Take a ceramic saucer and turn it upside down.
Then, put hot glue in the middle of the saucer.
Place the first plastic skull over the glue and wait for the glue to set in place.
Put hot glue on the head of the first skull.
Now you can stack the second skull on top of it. Remember to leave the glue enough time to dry.
Put glue on the head of the second skull.
Proceed to stack the third skull on top of the second, and once again, wait for the glue to dry.
Apply glue to the bottom of the second saucer and then place it on the head of the third skull.
You can now paint the candleholder with the brush.
Place a candle on top, light it, and you have a new, relatively easy DIY Halloween decor.

3

DIY Chalkboard Tombstone

Ghouls and ghosts and witches might be some of the Halloween classics, but what about a good-old fashioned cemetery to go along? For this project, you’re going to have to hitch a ride to your local hardware store for some plywood, a small saw, and chalkboard paint. Still, it will be worth the trip as you're gonna be making some great spooky outdoor Halloween decorations with them.
Difficulty: Intermediate
Time estimate: Anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes per tombstone
Location: Front of the house
List of materials: Saw; Plywood; Pencil; Paintbrush; Chalk; Chalkboard paint; Tombstone templates; Scissors

How to Make Chalkboard Tombstones?

You should start by printing the tombstone template(s) you most like.
Then cut out the tombstone from the paper.
Put the tombstone paper template on top of the plywood and outline it with the pencil.
You can then use the saw to cut on the line and create a plywood tombstone.
Apply chalkboard paint and let it dry.
Use chalk to write a name, date of birth and death.
Repeat this process and create as many of these DIY scary Halloween decorations as you want!

4

Murder Rug

Want your very own Psycho-inspired Halloween? Then a DIY murder rug decoration is just the thing for you! What’s even better is that you and your family can have tons of fun while working on the project. Still, you’re going to have to head on out to your nearest supplies store to fetch a couple of stuff first.
Difficulty: Easy
Time estimate: 30 to 45 minutes
Location: Living room, dining room, any room that fits and can display a rug
List of materials: White rug (around 196.8"x 78.7" / 5x2 meters); Red paint

How to Make a Murder Rug?

Unroll the rug on a flat (or even uneven) surface.
Take your shoes off and dip your feet in the paint.
Run across the rug, randomly step on it, just go crazy!
For a more realistic effect, drip some paint near the footprints to give the impression of bleeding too.
This is one of the easiest to make projects on this list of DIY scary Halloween decorations, so you can place as many murder rugs as you want. You can also use this as a prop for other parties too (murder mystery, anyone?)

5

Bowl of Worms

If you really want to go all out and impress your guests during Halloween, you should definitely go for some thematic snack. Edible worms made out of Jell-O is just the kind of thing you’ll need for All Hallows’ Eve, and while they aren't DIY scary Halloween decorations per say, you could still throw some around the house, on that new murder rug, for example. You can also mix them with your other party snacks as an added scare.
Difficulty: Hard
Time estimate: 1 to 2 hours
Location: Kitchen, Living room, Dining room
List of materials: Raspberry Jell-O (around 3 oz.); Green food coloring; Tall glass; One pack of gelatin (unflavored); Whipping cream (around 3/4); Boiling water (3 cups); Straw pack (100 should be enough)

How to Make Jell-O Worms?

Mix the Jell-O with boiling water in a bowl.
Wait for the mixture to cool down a bit and then add the whipping cream. For coloring, add approximately 15 drops of edible dye to the mixture.
Take straws out of the pack and put them in the tall glass.
Pour the Jell-O mixture over the straws and allow these to cool and the mixture set in.
Using a bobby pin or lukewarm water, take the Jell-O worms out of the straws. You're all ready to serve them now.

6

Hanging Bloody Handprints

A cleverly-crafted murder scene is, by far, the most popular décor for Halloween. However, axes, fake blood or even bloody handprints on the wall can be rather dull. So, why not aim higher this year? You already have a murder rug, so why not make some hanging bloody handprints too? They are tricky to make, but chilling, and will surely get a reaction.
Difficulty: Intermediate
Time estimate: 2 to 3 hours
Location: Bathroom, Living room, any room in the house
List of materials: Crafts glue; Wax paper; Blue and red food coloring; Plastic wrap; Cutting board; Tape

How to Make Hanging Handprints?

Apply the plastic wrap to the cutting board.
In a bowl, pour one ounce of glue and one drop of blue dye and stir them together.
Then add one drop of red dye and continue mixing until the composition turns blood-red.
Cover your hand in crafts glue.
Place your hands on the plastic wrap, remove them, and allow the handprints enough time to dry. Repeat as many times as you like.
Apply blood-red dye on your hands and press them over the set glue. Once again, let them dry completely.
Remove the bloody handprints from the plastic wrap, and go crazy with these DIY scary Halloween decorations by hanging them all around the house.

Boo-Hoo-Hoo Yet?

As you can very well see, you don’t need to spend a lot of time or effort on Halloween decor. You can also leave behind the scare and transform these into funny decorations, or gags, anything you want to make the most of the scariest night of the year!
